We catch up with Galvin Hop, the pub deluxe in Spitalfields

1

For those that don’t already know, Galvin Hop is the flagship of the newly-formed Galvin Pub Group on Spital Square next door to La Chapelle. Galvin HOP is a Pub Deluxe where the freshest craft beer rubs shoulders with simple but innovative pub food of the highest quality in a relaxed and vibrant environment.

A soon as we met Chef Chris, his infectious enthusiasm for his job, the venue and (praise the lord!) his Synergy Grill was instantly visible and didn’t abate for our entire visit.

We learnt how the team make everything from scratch each day at Galvin Hop – even the crisps and the popcorn. It’s a these little touches and extra effort that give the venue deep rooted character for every one of the senses.

Here’s what he had to say about his Synergy:

“In the mornings it’s incredible. I come in, get Henry the Hoover out and give it a quick whip round. It takes me longer to get the hoover up and down the stairs than it does to clean the grill.”

“It’s interesting too because it doesn’t kick out phenomenal heat. You can have your hand over it and it’s not too hot.”

“I put the salmon on. We bar mark it both sides and it’s still completely raw so we rest it in a nice gentle warm spot and let it come through. It marks beautifully. Like I say, I’ve got nothing to do with these guys. It makes no odds to me if this grill works or not. Having used this I think it’s the nuts. I really, really, really do. There’s no reason for me to say this. It’s just really great.”

After a positive meeting, we had coffee, juicy chargrilled steak cooked on Galvin Hop’s Synergy Grill (naturally) and sampled Galvin’s Hop’s famous hot dogs served with fresh Maille truffle mustard.

The ‘dogs’ lived up to their glowing reputation – devilishly tasty, somehow retaining that authentic hot-dog taste whilst ‘Michelin-Starred’ up to a transcendent new hot-doggy level. Don’t try to think about what that tastes like; it will break your mind… pop down to Galvin Hop and try one instead.

Tom’s Kitchen choose Synergy Grill

Tom Aikens, one of the UK’s most acclaimed and inspirational British chefs, is one of our newest customers opting for a Synergy Grill model SG900.

His remarkable career has taken him to David Cavalier’s in Battersea, Pierre Koffman’s La Tante Claire, Pied-à-Terre and Joel Robuchon in Paris to name a few. At 26, Tom became the youngest British chef ever to be awarded two Michelin stars.

The ethos of Tom’s Kitchen is simple: use the very best seasonal and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. The restaurants work with British suppliers (like us!) and farmers that are as passionate about growing as the chefs are about cooking.

Here’s what Tom Aikens had to say about our grills: “Synergy Grills are the most fuel efficient & robust grills you can get. Easy to clean & operate but most importantly will give you the highest amount of heat you will need to cook anything on.” – Tom Aikens, Tom’s Kitchen

We team up with Trenchmore Farm in Sussex

download
We’ve recently teamed up with Trenchmore Farm, our favourite producers of Wagyu beef. We believe our unique grills are best partnered with the finest, local produce. We naturally bring out the best in each other so what could be better than partnering up with our favourite Wagyu beef provider.

Here’s a little bit about Trenchmore…

We raise grass-fed Sussex Wagyu and Sussex Angus cross cattle – they also enjoy brewer’s grains from our local breweries and apple pomace from our cider pressing, farmed the traditional way to produce marbled, succulent, delicious, slow grown 28 day dry aged beef. In our orchard we have about 1500 traditional cider apple trees from which we make Silly Moo Cowfold cider. Although we occasionally have some competition for the apples… We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Food Made Good Supplier of the Year Award 2016.

If you’d like to know more about their beautiful beef, please call Joanne on 07711 698 279 or email farm@trenchmore.co.uk

Award Winning TLC Inns Choose Synergy….

TLC Inns secures £1m of new funding with Barclays Corporate: Award-winning pub and restaurant operator TLC Inns, led by Steve and Jo Haslam, has secured a further £1m of funding with Barclays Corporate to aid the expansion of its Grand Central bar and grill brand.

Steve Haslam said: “We are currently in negotiations for 6,000 sq ft of space in Chelmsford and have two other sites on our radar. Having achieved our highest ever level of Ebitda in quarter one and undergone our biggest ever expansion period, we are now fully committed to further expanding the Grand Central brand.”

“After 18 months of new openings, we have also refreshed all sites and are currently undergoing a root and branch assessment of our costs. This has led to some amazing results already with a 30% reduction in waste costs. We continue to look at all areas including utilities. Our whole estate now operates on low energy bulbs and waterless urinals, which are saving thousands of pounds. We are conscious of energy costs within our kitchens and have signed with Synergy grills to supply our estate with their new innovative grills.”

“With a 40% energy saving on the most expensive piece of kit in the kitchen to run, this was an easy decision to make, coupled with the food being a far better product to the plate, lower maintenance and cleaning, it will revolutionise our current grill system.”

“Once our assessment is finished and all areas implemented, we expect savings in the region of £100,000 and this will not lead to a single customer-facing cut, but improvements to our efficiency, leaving us in a position to actually invest further in the customer experience.”
